Active movement policy

8.15 ACTIVE MOVEMENT

a)    The need to provide an environment that is both challenging and safe for our children who range in age from three months to five years is recognized.
b)    Being physically active is important for all children to obtain health, development and growth.
c)    An environment which is safe and challenging for all children is provided.
d)    Children are taught to understand and have a positive attitude towards being physically active and healthy.
e)    Staff will work in partnership with parents, whanau and caregivers.
f)    Physical activity and music is part of the daily routine and programme.
g)    The under two’s have an appropriate, safe and encouraging environment in which to develop and extend their skills.
h)    Children three years and above are involved in moderate to vigorous physical activity for at least 10 to 20 minutes every day.
i)    Physical activites will be implemented daily in the programme regardless of weather.
j)    Current practices and research in relation to active movement will be kept up to date.
k)    Equipment will be kept to a high standard, safe and used on a daily basis.
l)    Staff will encourage and support children in extending their gross motor skills, loco motor, stability, and manipulative skills.
m)    Children will have the opportunity to learn movement skills from other cultures.
n)    Teachers, parents, and caregivers will be encouraged to maintain and be involved in physical activities away from the centre.
o)    The centre will make information available to parents on up and coming events on physical activity in our local community.
